Curtiss JN-4D Jenny |
When it comes to building biplane models, most of us develop a rather healthy love/hate relationship. Love because the little buggers are really appealing on many levels and they're small enough...even in the larger scales...that we don't have too much trouble finding a place to display a substantial collection. Hate? It's figuring out how to add that top wing onto a forest of delicate struts when you only have two hands to do the job and you need anywhere from three to seven, depending on the kit subject! Howsomever, there were ways to make building a biplane model easier. So back in 1955, Lindberg released a 1/48 scale kit of the well known Curtiss JN-4D Jenny that incorporated a solution to the top wing/strut forest problem. Or at least it made it easier. Since then, there have been four more releases of the kit through 2007 under the Lindberg label, with at least one of them...I think...being a repop. In 2022, Atlantis Models released their own repop of the original Lindberg kit, complete with the original boxtop artwork that is suitable for framing. Their effort is very nice indeed, so let's take a closer look at what's in the box.
The kit comes packed in a conventional 11 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 2 1/2" top over bottom box that some refer to as a slipcover box . Parts are molded in green and contained in a single large bag. Decals and instructions are loose on top of the parts bag.
The instructions are basically the original Lindberg instructions, but they've been tweaked to provide additional information for the modeler. This particularly applies to the color multiviews on the back of the instructions. New modelers or those unfamiliar with WW-I or Between The Wars schemes will find this especially useful.
Decals are a combination of the Lindberg and Aurora markings. ********** Page 1, 2 , back to home page
