SM-62 Snark |
Being molded in white, it's difficult to see the surface detail. According a build article that I found, an original Lindberg kit had very prominent raised surface detail that absolutely had to be sanded down. What I found was very light raised detail that did nothing to detract from a finished model and didn't need sanding down unless you were extremely picky. And just is case you're wondering, I contacted Round 2 about the surface detail and they categorically stated that they had done nothing to alter, change or improve the surface detail.
Given the age of this kit and the number of times it's been repopped, you'd expect to find at least a few sink marks...ejector pin marks...and some flash here and there, especially around or on the figures. I found virtually no flash and no ejector pin marks at all, even when using an OptiVisor.
The vinyl sprue with all the tires and tracks are just as nice as the rest of the kit. Bottom line is this: It's an old technology kit, doesn't have recessed surface detail and will take a little effort to build. But you will end up with a very nice model for your showcase. And most importantly of all, if you want a 1/48th scale Snark to add to your missile collection, this is literally the only game in town. ********** Page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, back to home page
